Summit Swings Camp Photos

This year, the jazz combo from Summit Swings jazz camp took a trip to the American Jazz Museum at 18th and Vine in downtown Kansas City. They also visited the Mutual Musician’s Foundation -- home to overnight jazz jam sessions on Friday and Satruday nights for the last 80 years. The trip concluded with a performance at the Blue Room jazz club -- voted one of the top 100 jazz clubs in the country. Of course I was there taking a lot of pictures!

Many thanks to the American Jazz Museum, Meyer Music and Lamar’s Donuts!

Thursday Reminders!

Reminder:
$50.00 Deposit for 2009 Chicago Trip is due Thursday.
Fundraiser items must be picked up on Thursday, May 22nd at 2:30 pm.
Items must be picked up no later than 3:30 pm

Original Message:
Parent volunteers, the Music Staff needs your help on Thursday with distributing the Club’s Choice Fundraising items, the truck will arrive at LSW by 12:30 pm. If any parents are available to help with sorting the items and laying them out for students (or parents) to pick up right after school in the Music Room #1060.

Fundraiser items must be picked up on Thursday, May 22nd at 2:30 pm.

All items come frozen and need to be picked up on time so they can stay frozen.

If you have no way of getting to the school to pick-up the items, you need to make arrangements to have a neighbor or relative at school to pick up your order.

We have no frozen area to store items that are not picked up, they will go bad if they sit at school too long.

Items must be picked up no later than 3:30pm as the building will be locked at that point.

Metheny Foundation Scholarships

DSC_0229_tn

On May 17, at Lee's Summit City Hall, Metheny Foundation scholarships for 2008 were presented to eleven students. "The March 7th event was so successful that we were able give cash awards to every Lee's Summit music student who applied," said Foundation board member Mike Metheny. "We also decided to let the recipients pick which camp they would like to attend." This year those choices included the University of Missouri/Kansas City (UMKC), the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan, and summer sessions at Boston's Berklee College of Music.

Of those students, three were from LSW! Read the full press release and congratulate these students (and graduates) when you see them.

Don't Forget: Thursday Fundraising Pick-up!

All items from the recent fundraiser will be available for pick-up after school Thursday, May 22nd. These items are delivered frozen and won't stay that way long in the band room -- make arrangements to pick up and deliver your items Thursday!

Music Parents Letter/Chicago Forms

Fellow LSW Music Parents,

Thank you for attending the LSW Music Achievement Awards Honors Concert on Tuesday night. We have so many talented students to be proud of, and it was evident by the honors and achievement awards they earned. Congratulations to our students for a job well done.

In recognizing parents that were leaving the Music Board I failed to mention our Choir Liaison Jo Hanson and the second half of our Band Liaison duo Carl Bingham. I want to thank all our Board members and Parents that helped through out the year to make this organization function in its main mission of supporting the students in achieving excellence in their music endeavors.
